Starting Over
As mentioned in my last post, I’ve been using Blogger for so long now that I really needed a change. Coming to Squarespace already feels like it was the best decision I could have made, although I am definitely still hitting some snags here and there.
Using Squarespace on our iPad Pro seems to cause some issues every now and then. Hover effects don’t seem to work, so I’m having some problems implementing images as well as removing unnecessary blocks which is a little frustrating. So I am having to move back and forth between using the iPad for the majority of the writing (and pulling posts over from Blogger), to doing touch-ups and corrections on my phone.
I’ve also noticed that with my previous site relying so heavily on the “blog” standard posting, here things can be more free - such as using Portfolios to document any Asylum Unboxings or Entries to the Asylum that I do. This will allow for images to be placed in more of a gallery format, with the main body of the article underneath. I’m still not 100% sure on how I want these pages to be laid out, but I’m having a lot of fun testing out different options.
I’m also taking the time to read through old posts to ensure that they’re all pulling over properly, and whilst some are ready to be moved over and published, some posts are requiring a little more work with formatting and placing images.
I am trying to figure out a basic layout for both my unboxings and ‘Entries’ posts so that everything has a fairly uniform process for finding all of the information and seeing all of the images. I’m also cringing over the photo quality of some of the images I’ve used in the past - so as time goes on I am going to continue to swap out images with new ones.
If you have any advice or recommendations for the best photography set-ups for documenting everything - please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Right now I’m thinking I’ll need to invest in a nice, big ring light, and maybe set up a dedicated photography corner again.
I’m doing my best to get everything moved over as quickly as possible, so bear with me as we transition to the new site. Hopefully as I’m moving everything manually we shouldn’t lose any posts in the process, but if you feel like something is missing then please let me know and I can look into it :)
