The Creator Clash Recap!
Organised by husband/wife duo Ian ‘Idubbbz’ Washburn and Anisa Jomha, Saturday’s Creator Clash consisted of nine fights between popular content creators - and proved to be one of the most entertaining sports events we’ve seen in recent years (and by far the best of any of the other ‘influencer boxing’ matches we’ve seen).
With a sold out arena, as well as the ability to purchase virtual tickets to the online stream via Moment House - with the Replay still being able to be purchased for a limited time - the Creator Clash is guaranteed to have raised a fantastic amount of money for the charities involved.
First fight was Matt Watson vs. Dad - with Dad winning 22 seconds in, he absolutely rocked Matt. In all honesty, we had anticipated a win from Dad, but had hopes that Matt could have held his own for a little bit. Of all the match ups, we did feel that this one was the most unbalanced (even accounting for Harley and Arin’s weight difference), simply due to Dad’s athletic experience and Matt’s… well, not. It did however prove to be an entertaining start, with an almost comedy-like bout combining Dad’s severe intensity and Matt’s almost cartoonish reactions.
Second fight, Ryan Magee vs. Alex Ernst - being more familiar with Ryan out of the two fighters, we were both rooting for him - especially given his new physique. I felt that whilst you could see a lot of change across all of the fighters, Ryan’s did appear to be the most drastic. It ended up being a fairly equal fight, with both fighters giving and taking strong punches. Alex managed to knock Ryan down, but he rose again; a slightly wobblier version of himself. Going the full five rounds, the match ended with Alex being given the win in a unanimous decision.
Third fight gave us Erik (Internet Comment Etiquette) vs. DJ Welch (Animators vs Games). The only fight of the night to have headgear, but both fighters came in strong. The first of the night’s Heavyweight matches, you can feel the drop in speed from the fighters, but that just might be swapped out for an increase in power. DJ managed to get a lot of big shots in, rocking Erik a bit. Again, having more knowledge of Erik than his opponent, we were naturally rooting for him - but could already feel a bit of his unsteadiness as the fight began, and he couldn’t seem to shake that, losing by TKO in Round 2 with DJ taking the win.
The fourth bout saw TheOdd1sOut up against I Did A Thing, with birthday boy Odd looking a little less confident than the Aussie. After a few powerful punches from I Did A Thing, who looked to be very well skilled, the ref called it - leading to a well deserved Round 1 TKO.
JustaMinx vs. Yodeling Haley - this was a fantastic fight, one of the most entertaining of the event - lasting much longer than we’d expected. Haley’s athletic background seemed to be helping, giving her a bit of a speed advantage, however Minx had that bit more power behind her punches, and that was enough to shake Haley. Haley did well to hold her own, but in the end, Minx gave her just enough of a fight, winning by TKO in Round 4. An absolutely brilliant fight, and both girls showed a tonne of heart.
Hundar vs. AB - going in, we thought Hundar was going to be the clear winner, however upon seeing their physiques we realised it was a more even match than we expected, with Brett having dropped around 20 lbs and AB gaining around 10-15. Both fighters seemed to be very technical, performing really well and having great technique. Round 1 and 2 seemed to be on quite level footing, but early in Round 3, things took a turn with Hundar quickly dropping AB, before AB then got up and surprised Hundar, knocking him down! They almost went the distance, but Hundar managed to get in a win with a TKO late in Round 5.
Graham Stephan vs. Michael Reeves - we had no idea of Graham prior to the match, and based on the audience chants for Michael, it seems like he was the crowd favourite also. Graham did seem to be getting in some decent shots, but Michael’s speed and determination prevailed, leading to him coming out on top - winning by TKO in Round 2.
The penultimate fight of the night saw Harley (Epic Meal Time) vs. Arin Hanson (Game Grumps). A huge weight difference between these two, with Harley being 62 lbs heavier - a fact that could easily have swung things either way, with more power behind him, but also being much easier to tire out. Quickly dominating the fight, you could feel Harley start to pull his punches towards the end due to being aware of Arin struggling a little - it wasn’t long before we had the referee steeping in to award Harley with the Round 2 TKO. Afterwards we had a call out to Dr. Disrespect - Harley wants to take him on next! That’s something we’d love to see.
The Main Event of the night, Ian (idubbbz) vs. Doctor Mike. Starting off with a slightly cheeky move, going in for a quick and dirty hit immediately after the glove tap, Mike caught Ian off guard a bit. With ten years boxing experience, that was something we found to be a little unfair - not technically an illegal move, just morally seemed to be a little harsh. Despite being less experienced, Ian’s training has paid off, giving him much more skill in the fight than we’d expected (after all, we saw him in his Sam Hyde video not too long ago). Both fighters put on a really good show, and the fight proved to be well worth the wait. A slight error from the boxing commission led the fight to being changed from four 3-minute rounds to five 2-minute rounds on the fly, and they made it through them all, but Ian just couldn’t quite get himself a win, with Mike winning by Unanimous Decision.
Overall, it was a fantastic event and one that we really enjoyed watching. Why can’t more sports events be done like this? Minimal ads - literally just a quick pop up of sponsor fansly a few times, and short moments where the camera would switch to the commentary team or interviewers (consisting of Akinola Verissimo, Wade Plemons, FaZe Sensei, xQcOW, Moist Cr1TiKaL, EsfandTV and Chills), before getting right back to the action.
Watching professional fighting such as UFC, etc. I’ve always been in awe of the fighters and what they put themselves through, not only by taking plenty of painful looking hits, but the amount of work and dedication required to get their bodies into peak fitness and shape. It’s only now, watching the Creator Clash that I’ve sort of thought about it for myself, and it’s something I’d definitely be interested in future.
You can donate to each of the charities: The Alzheimer’s Association, The American Heart Association and The Healing Horse Therapy Centre from their respective links, as well as pick up various Creator Clash merch from the Moment House page if you have a ticket.
